Mermaid Friendships

27 Jun Mermaid Friendships

We were recently invited to a birthday party in Kapalua, where we witnessed beautiful friendships. The birthday girl herself showed so much love and kindness proving herself to be a real mermaid and giving us a reflective mermaid experience. Although it was HER day she freely gave to others. She shared the clothes off her back and all the kids were so selfless and sweet. We couldn’t help but reflect on the meaning of friendship…

Like mermaid Malie always says, “When I close my eyes envision a group of mermaids, I see them combing each other’s hair and telling each other how beautiful they are”. Isn’t that the truth? We should be building one another up, not just in the happy times but in the hard times too. We should compliment each other’s strengths and help conquer our weaknesses. No one is perfect but we all have perfect gifts to give the world!

Ever notice how each sea shell in the ocean is different? Or how each mermaid tail is different? Well, so are we. We are each unique and different from one another. We should embrace our differences and let one another shine! That’s what friends do, we love on each other’s light. We allow each other to sing out loud and dance our silly dances. Take mermaids for an example, their tails and tail shapes are all different. Some swim fast and some swim slow. But one thing is constant, they always bring out the BEST in each other.

“The only way to have a friend is to be one”. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Be a good friend to everyone, to your parents, brothers, sisters, husbands, wives and children. Friendships are sacred. What we share with one another is sacred. We should never tell each other’s secrets to anyone else or talk negatively behind one another’s back. True friends help each other grow with honesty.

With each mermaid experience we’ve been a part of, these are the words we are left with; integrity, honesty, support, love, happiness, faith and sacredness… Write down the qualities you want to be known for and try to live by them daily. Friendships are work but the rewards are priceless.

“A sweet friendship refreshes the soul” ~ Proverbs 27.9

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world” ~ Gandhi
